~ Emergency Shelter ~

There are several emergency shelters in our area: Interfaith Family Shelter for families that include teenage and adult males; Shalom House and The YWCA of Greater Harrisburg for women and children; and Bethesda Men’s Mission for single men. The East Shore YMCA will, when space is available, accept referrals for single men who are able to continue paying the weekly fees after an initial payment provided by HELP.  Each day, resource counselors work with clients to place them into one of the emergency shelters.

Every day the HELP office receives at least six requests for emergency shelter from single individuals and families.  Once in emergency shelter, a client or family meets with a HELP Case Manager. HELP's role is to complete an intake and assessment to determine the most appropriate shelter.  Emergency shelter is coordinated through HELP so there is always a tracking system for who is in shelter and for how long. When there is no shelter space available locally, staff members call neighboring counties who may be able to accommodate clients.
